Vacancy: Naval architect (40 hours a week)

Who are we?

In this role, you will be responsible for the engineering and work preparation for newbuild ships and/or existing ships, with a particular focus on the shipbuilding side. You will draw up, check and develop ship designs. You will also assist with setting up, developing and checking the main and auxiliary systems (ship propulsion, HVAC, mechanical and electrical installations), including the associated diagrams and overview drawings. Depending on the phase of the project, you will work closely with our commercial department, the project manager and/or production. You are eager to learn and not only want to develop yourself, but are also interested in further exploring new techniques, such as in the field of sustainable shipping. For this role, we are looking for a hands-on person; your desk will literally be in the middle of all the projects. This role offers a nice variety between your workplace and on board, where you will see your own designs come to life.

Duties and responsibilities

• Engineering and work preparation for newbuild ships and/or existing ships

• Developing design, construction and detailed engineering for ship construction

• Checking and assessing documentation received from the client, suppliers, classification society and other stakeholders

• Maintaining contact with subcontractors, suppliers and inspection bodies

• Managing a project (in consultation and collaboration with the Engineering Manager)

• Maintaining and expanding technical knowledge and skills 

• Minimum higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture

• Several years of experience in a similar position

• You have strong communication skills and are stress-resistant

• You are good at planning, organising and maintaining an overview

• You have a good command of spoken and written Dutch and English; German is an advantage
