Working at Den Breejen Shipyard

Vacancy: (Junior) Buyer (32 - 40 hours a week)

Who are we?

At Den Breejen Shipyard, we work daily on the new-build, repair and refit of vessels for inland waterway transport and river cruises. These aren’t run-of-the-mill projects, but bespoke work where your procurement decisions directly contribute to the success of our projects. Behind every successful vessel is a strong procurement department, and you can become part of that.

Your role as a Purchaser

As a purchaser, you are an indispensable link within our organisation. Together with your fellow purchaser, you ensure that our projects never come to a standstill. You know exactly what is needed, when it is needed, and which supplier offers the best value for money. You do more than just place orders. You build long-term relationships with suppliers, contribute ideas on cost savings and have a direct influence on the success of our projects. You do not work on standard products, but on unique shipbuilding projects. As a result, you will deal with a wide range of technical issues and many different suppliers. You will have frequent contact with project managers, engineers and suppliers, and you will see the direct results of your work on the shipyard.

What will you be doing?

  • Procuring materials, equipment and services for new-build, repair and refit projects.
  • Managing and optimising general stock and ready-to-use stock.
  • Requesting, comparing and evaluating quotations.
  • Negotiating prices, delivery times and contract terms.
  • Building and maintaining long-term relationships with suppliers.
  • Monitoring delivery times and proactively identifying potential bottlenecks.
  • Working closely with project managers, engineers and work planners.
  • Actively contributing to cost control and an efficient procurement process.
Who are you?

You are an enterprising procurement officer who looks beyond price alone. You think ahead, build relationships and see it as a challenge to find the best solution for every situation.

In addition, you bring:

  • Higher vocational education (HBO) level of working and thinking.
  • Several years’ experience in a technical environment.
  • Experience within the shipbuilding or maritime sector is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with ERP systems and administrative procurement processes.
  • Good command of Dutch and English.
  • Proficiency in German is an advantage.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • An independent, proactive and results-oriented attitude.
What do we offer
  • A varied role with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy.
  • The opportunity to work on a wide range of new-build, repair and refit projects.
  • A pleasant, informal working atmosphere with short lines of communication.
  • Plenty of opportunities for personal development.
  • A competitive salary commensurate with your knowledge and experience.
